Circular Economy at Laika

August 13, 2020

At Laika we believe in circular economy and upcycling. We believe that we can find value in what people may see as waste and turn them into something more useful. And this is how we turn our belief into our daily tasks at Laika.

As many of you may know, there are tons of food wastes being thrown away every day. In Thailand alone, it is more than 17,000 tons per year. Some of these are edible organic fruits and vegetables from grocery stores, hotels, and restaurants.

Our team at Laika carefully select these clean organic fruits and vegetables and use them as a food source for our closed-system farming facility. Our insects will be fed only with fresh organic fruits and vegetables. They turn them into healthy protein and fat which will be turned into high-quality protein powder and healthy oil suitable for food production.

As natural decomposers, the only by-product from our farm is a natural compose with high nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium contents. This organic compose is highly suitable for growing green-leaf vegetables which we give back to our local organic farmers to grow more organic produces. The produces are to be supplied for grocery stores, hotels, and restaurants again and the process repeats itself. And that's the circular economy at Laika.

Along our journey, we do our best to minimize any unnecessary waste.

Each bag of Laika Treat helps to upcycled at least 500 grams of disregarded fruits and vegetables. So as your dogs are enjoying Laika Treat, they are helping us to save the planet at the same time! Thank you for being a part of our journey and growing our positive impacts together.
